There are many reasons why we lose our hair, it believes that stress may be the primary reason for unexplained hair loss. When we are under stress, hair can go into the fall-out phase. Telogen effluvium is a very common hair loss problem that can occur up to 3 months after a stressful event. After the initial hair loss, hair usually grows back in 6 to 9 months.

Life-changing events such as childbirth or surgery also can cause hair loss. During these times, the body takes a “time-out” from growing hair to concentrate on recovery and healing. As such, hair does not grow as much and some could shed and not grow back right away.

Stress affects people differently, some develop an ulcer or have a heart attack or lose their hair. Hair loss is a normal response to stress. It is advisable to avoid any strange diets where only one or two foods are allowed as improper nutrition and extreme or rapid weight loss result in hair loss.

Effects of Stress. It has been said that stress can cause graying hair or to lose hair. Even though we sometimes feel like tearing our hair out because of personal, economic and work-related stress, stress isn’t likely to cause of hair turning gray. The unavoidable damage to the DNA in cells that produce the pigment responsible for hair color is most likely the culprit. But can stress accelerate the aging process and cause us to go gray sooner than otherwise would? Perhaps over long periods of stress, there may be an acceleration of gray hair in some people.

What’s Stressing Us. Depending on the type of stress. Stress like we’re late to work or got a heavy workload is not going to cause us to lose hair.
